The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has called for the resignation of the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, following nationwide outrage over mass failures in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), attributed to technical errors by the examination body.
The JAMB Registrar acknowledged the glitches and apologized to affected candidates earlier this week.
In a statement issued in Ibadan, NAPS Senate President, Comr. Oyewumi Festus Ayomide, condemned the situation, describing it as a revelation of not just technical failures but also institutional recklessness, administrative irresponsibility, and leadership collapse within JAMB.
NAPS urged President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Education to intervene by establishing an independent panel to investigate the circumstances surrounding the failure. It also demanded the immediate resignation of senior ICT and operations officials at JAMB for their poor handling of the issue.
The student body further called for the suspension of reprinting and resit fees for affected candidates, public compensation, and the provision of mental health support for victims of the system failure.
NAPS also demanded a full independent audit of JAMB’s ICT infrastructure.
“If our demands are not met within seven (7) working days, we shall mobilize and occupy every JAMB office nationwide.
“If there are no consequences for failure, then Nigeria has failed its future. If JAMB cannot protect the aspirations of Nigerian students, it has no moral right to exist,” the statement concluded.
