UNILORIN gets full NUC nod for 36 programmes — only Hausa gets interim status

The University of Ilorin says it has secured full accreditation for 36 of the 37 academic programmes it submitted during the recent exercise conducted by the National Universities Commission (NUC), THE INFORMANT reports.

According to the institution, the last remaining programme was granted interim accreditation, making it a 100 percent success rate overall.

The outcome of the exercise, conducted in October and November 2024, was communicated in a letter dated April 30, 2025, and signed by Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, executive secretary of the NUC.

In the letter, which was issued on Ribadu’s behalf by Abraham Chundusu, acting director of accreditation, the NUC explained that none of the 37 courses was denied approval.

While 36 received full accreditation status, only Hausa, from the Faculty of Arts, was granted interim accreditation.

The commission noted that Igbo, which was also presented from the same faculty, earned full accreditation.

The report showed that Finance from the Faculty of Management Sciences was fully accredited.

Anatomy — the only programme submitted from the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences — also received full approval.

Computer Science and all programmes from the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences were equally accredited.

In the Faculty of Education, all 17 academic programmes presented were granted full accreditation.

From the Faculties of Engineering and Technology, Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering received full accreditation status.

Courses from Environmental Sciences, Clinical Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Sciences were also fully approved.

In the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Social Sciences, three programmes earned accreditation, while four others from Social Sciences received full accreditation.

Reacting to the development, Wahab Egbewole, vice chancellor of the institution, said the announcement was met with joy and satisfaction across the university.

In a statement released by Kunle Akogun, spokesperson for the university, the vice chancellor said, “We are happy to be so recognised, we are indeed elated.”

Egbewole said the result reflects the consistent and strategic investment by the university administration in both human and material resources.

He appreciated the contributions of the provost, deans, heads of departments and all faculty members who played a role in achieving the milestone.

“It is our hope that we would continue to do our best to position the University for more recognitions,” he said.

“We want to assure everybody that the Administration will continue to appreciate them.”
